Sexism. Violence against women. Eating disorders. Media and celebrity. Mental health. Sexuality and gender. When the award winning GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS hits the stage for the 2018 Melbourne Fringe Festival, there will be no need to ‘mansplain’.

The victories and struggles of today’s modern woman will come under the gaze of the all-female live show GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS set to make its Victorian premiere on September 29-30 as part of this year’s Fringe festival. Featuring a lucky door prize, forbidden romance, the Australian flag, provocative audience interaction and of course, objectified women, GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS has something for everyone.

Led by its founder and namesake, Bonnie Curtis, the indie dance company is a diverse ensemble of performers that includes a pole dancer, a former competitive Irish dancer, a couple of contemporary dancers, and a ballet dancer, among others.

The artistic director, Bonnie, says the show is a gutsy work that explores the experiences of modern Australian women, “I wanted to create a lighthearted contemporary dance piece that was entertaining but still encouraged people to think about the darker undertones of the work.”

GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS brings attention to the pressures placed on modern Australian women and the way the rules, expectations and insecurities have changed less than you’d think.

GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS premiered at the Sydney Fringe Festival in 2017, marking the first feature length work by Bonnie Curtis Projects. After its premiere, GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS went on to perform another sell out season in Sydney before touring Queensland in the first half of 2018, winning an award at the Anywhere Theatre Festival for best performance.
