It’s BCP Birthday!

4 years ago we started working on an unnamed project, which was the beginning of Bonnie Curtis Projects as a company.

This unnamed project ended up with the name GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS.
So much has happened in the past 4 years.
We have toured across the East Coast of Australia and travelled across the ditch to perform in NZ.
We survived (hopefully) the worst of a global pandemic and we’ve had 7 seasons of performances with an 8th on the way.

After the write off of 2020, this year has started with a bang.
We hit the stage to perform a mixed-bill of incredible works choreographed by BCP dancers.
To be back on stage in March was the best feeling ever.
On top of this, we shared the ideas and creations of the talented bunch of dancers that make up BCP.
What a way to return to the stage.
I will never forget the generosity, kindness and supportive energy of everyone creating (un)bound.
It was not only a creative journey but also a healing journey for all of us post-2020.

On top of ‘(un)bound’ I am creating my first solo work ‘Limits’.
Not sure who thought that would be a good idea ha… (it was me 😳).
This is something that’s completely out of my comfort zone on a topic that’s very personal to me.
2021 is the year we push ourselves outside of our comfort zone and live our lives with no regrets.
As hard as it’s creating a work where it’s only you on stage, I would regret not doing it more.

We have been collaborating with different artists and expanding our creative practice.
It’s nice for us to have the opportunity to work on our creativity, trying out new things with new people with a brand new work planned for 2022…
Oops…
I let the cat out of the bag…
You’ll have to watch this space to see what we have planned…

It feels so nice to have some kind of normalcy after what was a rollercoaster of a year.
It’s so good to be back in the studio and able to perform on stage for an audience again.

I cannot thank my dancers enough.
They give their heart, soul and creative energy to make dance with BCP.
Without them, it would be me alone on stage doing weird things.
Wait…
That’s what will be happening in June…
After that yet, it will be a talented group of artists on stage doing what they do best.

Another important part of BCP is our Patreon supporters.
Without them, we would not have been able to achieve so many great things over the past 4 years.
They are the financial lifeblood that helps pay for costumes, lighting, materials to build sets, props and the rest.
Thank you for your dedication and support to the BCP family.
There are many other people who have supported us over the past 4 years.
Too many to name but you know who you’re.
Thank you for everything you have done to help us do our thing a little easier.

What will the next 12 months bring?
This time last year I had no idea what the future would bring.
For our 5th birthday, I hope for a world with less global suffering and misery.
A world where we take it 1 day at a time (like we all promised ourselves in 2020).
We’ll be back on stage with a new work and perhaps some touring might be on the cards.
I do know that no matter what happens, we’ll continue dancing and making works that make you a little (or a lot) uncomfortable.

Happy Birthday BCP!
xo Bonnie
