WHAT IS TAP DANCE?

Tap dance is a style of dance known for rhythm and musicality. Tap dancers wear shoes fitted with metal plates that create sounds when the dancer strikes their foot on a hard surface, such as the floor. Made famous by Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Mr Bojangles and movie musicals from the 20th century.

Ballet technique has developed over centuries and evolved to incorporate folk dance, story telling, mime and more recent contemporary performance elements.

Made famous in the 20th century by Anna Pavlova, Mikhail Baryshnikov, George Balanchine, Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, Sylvie Guillem, and in the 21st Century by African-American ballerina Misty Copeland.

“I like learning a dance and working on improving it over the 6-week session.

Learning a dance over 6 weeks gives me great incentive to not miss a session.”

“I keep coming back, as it’s good exercise, I enjoy it, it’s a challenge and you don’t have a concert at the end of the year which I wouldn’t like :-)”

Maureen, 56, BCP Dance Student

Maureen’s Story

“I originally booked Bonnie’s class as it came up when I was looking for something on the internet to do when I was bored in my holidays.

I have always wanted to do tap and never found an adult class for beginners.

I enjoy the challenge of Bonnie’s tap classes.

When she shows us a new step and I can’t do it properly, I enjoy practicing during the week till I get it.

I keep coming back, as it’s good exercise, I enjoy it, it’s a challenge and you don’t have a concert at the end of the year which I wouldn’t like :-)”

Maureen, 56, BCP Dance Student

Ian’s Story

“I wanted to do something creative outside my normal creativity (furniture making) to become more creative.

It’s said that to be more creative in your own field you should try something different.

I continue to dance in Bonnie’s classes because I love it.

It keeps me fit and I love chatting with others.”

Ian, 51, BCP Dance Student

Robbie’s Story

“I had always liked the idea of tapping, and never come across classes in the Highlands.

I saw your ad so I booked in.

I have very much enjoyed Bonnie’s classes and the easy pace which we have progressed.

The classes are structured and fun, no pressure to be perfect, but enjoyable and safe. Bonnie has a relaxed and encouraging teaching method which makes learning worthwhile and good for the soul!!”
