BCP Dance Student of the Month – Ian Bromley
1. How were you inspired or drawn to start dancing?
Not sure if anything inspired me to dance but I listened to a TV Show 1 day about Creative Thinking and it suggested to do something outside your field of design and comfort zone. Not ever danced before and very rigid when I do dance, I thought I would get dance a go, that was 2 years ago now.
2. How do you feel when you’re dancing?
When I am dancing I feel I can do anything, even though I probably look awkward and clumsy it doesn’t matter as I am enjoying the little time in the week when I can be myself.
3. Share with us some of the things you do outside BCP Online classes?
I am a Furniture Designer and Maker most of the time and dance has helped me think differently and to be able to think creatively. In a past life I was a Computer Programmer and I still work in the industry to have an income to support my dancing and to pay the bills. When not working, I play with my new 3D printer and around with electronics. I also like brewing my own beer and walking in the bush and going on overnight hikes.
4. What BCP classes do you attend?
I do the Contemporary Class, and when BCP introduced the Tap Classes I was there with new Tap Shoes. I have always loved watching the old Tap Films as a kid and my son did Tap as a young boy, so it was a no brainer when there was an Adult Tap class. I also do the Tap Extension as I can fine tune the steps I know and also push myself a little further
5. What do you enjoy most about BCP Online classes?
I can do it in my own home, also the classes are recorded so I can then practice in my own time.
6. We would love to know the best advice or tip your teacher has shared with you in class.
Breathe , apparently I don’t breathe enough, which is strange as I manage to make it through the class alive. But when I do it “properly” I do notice a difference.
7. What do you think are the benefits of online dance classes, being able to dance in your own home?
When we had to go to online classes we were still able to continue our classes. Also when it was winter I didn’t have to go out in the cold. It also saves on travel and you can do it anywhere.
8. Who do you think BCP Online classes would benefit?
Anyone who wants to give it a try.
9. Do you have any encouraging words to share with someone who might want to try a BCP Online class?
Just give it ago, you only live once and “A long journey starts with a single step”
10. Last question. What is your all-time, favourite song or type of music you love to dance to?
Hmmm hard question, as I have never really danced before and I am still working out the ones I like, but I have to get up to dance when I hear “Nutbush City Limits” by Tina turner
